Hotel Abi d’Oru in Porto Rotondo: New Certified Destination “Tra i Cieli Più Belli d’Italia”

Astronomitaly has identified a stunning new destination for stargazing and enjoying astronomical tourism: the Hotel Abi d’Oru in Porto Rotondo.

Located in front of the beautiful Marinella Beach, the hotel is increasingly positioning itself as a destination that embraces sustainable and responsible tourism. It has chosen to join the Astrotourism Network (Rete del Turismo Astronomico) as a certified location among Italy’s Most Beautiful Skies, not only because of its secluded position away from city lights, but also because it believes in a slow and authentic kind of tourism, where every natural beauty — including the starry sky — must be protected and preserved.

To celebrate its certification among Italy’s Most Beautiful Skies, Astronomitaly and Hotel Abi d’Oru have organized a calendar of unmissable events — open to all guests, including external visitors upon reservation — for astronomical observation with telescopes during key moments of the summer season, taking advantage of unique celestial phenomena.

It all begins on June 22nd with the Summer Solstice celebration, when spring gives way to summer not only meteorologically, but also astronomically, followed by the Night of the Milky Way; the Perseids Night — known as the Night of San Lorenzo — on August 10th, and finally Saturn Night on September 14th.

During each event, there will be two Astronomitaly guides and two professional telescopes available, offering guests the chance to experience stargazing, night orienteering sessions, and smartphone photography of visible planets — all while sipping “stellar” cocktails crafted by bar manager Marcello Cabiddu.

The event schedule:

  • June 22 – Summer Solstice Celebration

  • July 29 – Night of the Milky Way

  • August 10 – Perseids Night

  • September 14 – Saturn Night

Before the stargazing sessions, guests can book a pieds dans l’eau dinner at the Marinella Restaurant and then lie back on a large cushion and listen to stories about the Milky Way while watching it above.

“During our site visits, we were literally able to watch the sky bloom not just from outside, but even from the rooms,” explains Fabrizio Marra, founder of Astronomitaly. “What’s extraordinary here is the vast sense of openness toward the sky, with large panoramic windows framing for you the spectacle of earth, sea, and stars. Here, it truly feels like you’re closer to the sky — you can even watch the stars move from your bed, thanks to the wide windows. And from the large outdoor terrace of the Grazia Suite, for example, you can admire the enchantment of the Milky Way over the sea.

At dawn, the show continues with the sun rising from the sea, painting the entire landscape with color. From Marinella Beach, it’s even possible to see the Andromeda Galaxy rising from the sea, accompanied by the sound of the waves and the biodiversity from the nearby lagoon. The hotel’s vast garden is also a fantastic location for stargazing, offering a wide portion of visible sky. A hidden gem is the pool area, which transforms into a true natural observatory — the perfect spot to indulge in an authentic star bath.”
